Maybe a silly question but with the stock aid tool, is it designed to automatically file the taper in the rail. Or is it designed to only safely file away the base and you put the taper in?

Hello cf2004,

The StockAid tool is used to file the base of the stock rail where the switch point touches it. It is not used to file the base away from the switch point because that is accomplished when using the PointForm tool.

I am sorry, I misspoke.

what I mean is, the instructions for the stock aid states that well filing away the stock rail base, you are to put a taper in it. Does this told put the taper in the base of the stock rail. so you have all the base off where the switch point meets, and then gradually tapers back to a full rail base.

The answer to your question is Yes, but only by user efforts to add the taper.

The tool doesn't have a built in taper, if that is what you are asking. the person doing the filing must adjust there filing to get a tapered base rail when finished.

This can be done in the slot, or after you pull the rail from tool. I usually do my taper in the slot, filing down to bottom of slot on the end needed.

The same slot is used for both left and right rails, so it is flat at both ends with no taper built in.

Hope this helps answer what your question is.
