Hmmm ,not a lot of reponses.

It's probably the question; needs a bit more flesh on it.

A "Z" turnout being so small and not hinged I assume that when one switches; some thing is need to hold the "switched" rails in place.Other wise I suppose they would switch/spring back.

I have seen some manual switching handles in other gauges, but these would be as big as a two story building in 220 scale.

So if any body has any experience in switching Z turnouts { electrical switching in particular is good} , .... ?

:)

First, both the Tortoise and the Switchmaster motors will work fine - when installed correctly. The center location installation would be a bit more finicky - but they are both stall motors - so pressure would be good for holding the points.

For a manual method, I've seen some handlaid Z track that used small slide switches installed into the base board and linked with a wire to the points throw. The Slide switch also gives electrical contacts for powering the frog.

Check out the Nn3 folks, the track gauge is the same as Z, they do a lot of handlaid trackwork and the Nn3 Manual shows a variety of illustrated methods.
