Layout design,

Lance's layout is outstanding in that the track flows from curves to straight just like the prototype. I have no doubt that his trains run very smoothly, he automatically has easements into curves.

Oh course having turnouts that are gently curved helps the illusion.

I read that article a couple days ago, and plan on using it for my module. It looks like the smooth transitions will have less derailments, but even if it makes no difference, the trackwork flows nicer.
