Post subject:  Connecting Completed Track Components

I'm new to n-gauge railroading and Fast Tracks is exactly what I would like to use. My questions are:

a.) Once I assemble the various track components (straight, curves, turnouts, wyes, etc.) how then do I put all these together to complete the layout. I realize that the rails of each component must be cut/soldered to line up with the adjoining track component. Is there a video or any reference show exactly how this is done?

b.) Is separate underlying roadbed needed?

Thanks for your replies.

a) As far as the straight sections go, just file the rails flush with the edge of the fixture. I just use "trial and error" on the curved sections. A slight gap won't hurt.

b) My layout uses 4" thick foam as the baseboard, so I don't really need it. Just depends on what material the baseboard is made of.
