Is there any reason the operating wire (from tortoise, bullfrog, etc) has to go through the Center of the throwbar? Seems like it would be less damaging to the integrity of the turnout to place it at one end instead. Are there drawbacks to doing this? Also, has anyone devised a method to do this other than drilling through the throwbar? How about soldering a small brass piece to the end of the throwbar and drilling through the brass piece to make a hole for the wire?

Thoughts???

Thanks!

About the only reason you might not want to put the throw wire outside the rails would be the possibility of having the throwbar uncover the hole that the throw wire goes through which would allow debris to fall into it and eventually clog it up affecting the throwability of the turnout. If you make sure the hole remains covered at all times then I don't see any problems at all.

Another point to think about as far as where to put the throw wire is where the throw attachment point is if you use one of the hand throw controls (ie Caboose Industries throw) as these are always attached to the part of the throwbar outside the rails and these operate just fine.
