I just bought the #10 wye from FastTracks. Now, how small can I build A wye (given a 30" minimal radius). My hope is I can get it done under a maximal width of 24", but my thought is it will take up to 48".

Any advice is great.

sambear,

A Wye will split the diverging routes of the turnout geometry equally in opposite directions. As a result, the Wye minimum radius is (approximately) twice that of the same frog specification for a standard turnout. A number 4 (barely) or slightly better number 5 Wye will provide minimum radius greater than your desired 30" minimum. These will be significantly shorter in length than the number 10 (which has a minimum radius in excess of 96").

I estimate I have about 5 pounds of coupler springs somewhere in the vicinity of my workbench.

Once again Ed did the big help to me.

I called Terry at FastTracks and he will change my purchase of #10 to a #6 wye, that will save me a lot of area and should work well. I chose #6 because I have the other items (i.e. point form) from a #6 turnout.

Again, FastTracks is excellent treating its customers.

With the wye now to fit better it will help me enjoy the work more.

Merry Christmas everyone!!
