Hi:

I am new on forum and new on hand laid tracks.

I am german era II modeler, all my rolling stock have NEM wheels

1.- Someone have experience with european rolling stock and fast tracks?

2.- Where can I found dual gauge (H0-H0e) point templates? (I think H0n30 is equivalent to H0e).

I waiting my first template of #5 arrive soon...

Thanks in advance

Claudio,

US HO is 16.5mm
US HOn3 is 10.5mm
US HOn30 is 9mm

The European HOe is 12mm

I don't know about templates for 16.5mm and 12mm dual gage - likely only from some Euro sources.

US NMRA standards for flangeways are smaller than NEM standards and both the Track and the Wheel CHECK gages are a bit different. With NEM finer scale wheels (NEM 311 with depth at 0,5mm - the Dmin), there's compatibility of operations with US track standards if the check gage is adjusted, but it's not the same as being truly conforming.

The turnout geometry between the systems is different and reflects the difference in the prototype practices. US turnouts have straight frog sections and varied straight switch blade sections, having a different lead length and calculated closure radius. The Euro turnout geometry will follow a curved frog - often also curved point blades, and results in a shorter lead distance as well as a tighter closure radius.

Hi:

Thanks for your replay.

European H0m is 12 mm, H0e is 9mm like H0n30.

Regards
Claudio

Claudio,

Thanks for the correction on HOm and HOe. I'm in the US, and subject to some misunderstanding <grin>! I don't know of any dual gage HO and HOn30, but there could be some modelers doing it. There are a fair number doing HO and HOn3 dual gage modeling.

The NEM and NMRA 'standard' HO are not compatible exactly.
