Post subject:  Scratchbuilding a 3-way switch

It had to happen. No matter how I tried to fit everything in, I had to resort to a 3-way switch, one 3-way switch. I couldan't justify the cost of a jig for a single switch (and live to tell about it if the missus found out) so I did the next best thing, scratch built it over a template (from the Fast Tracks template library) and used the point filing jig to help with some of the components. It might not be a thing of beauty but nothing's derailed when I tested it with some cars. I just have to add 2 check rails and cut the gaps and it's done!

I tried the hinge idea from newsletter#8, but eventually went another way (just couldan't get the heel of the blades to line up). I soldered joiners to the closure rails and drilled holes for the hinge pins in the throw bars after removing the copper coating. I used Aretasina (don't think I spelled that right :) ) brass pins, -the sort model ship builders use to pin planking to ship models- soldered to the blades as hinge pins.

So far it works pretty good :D :D
