Post subject:  Cleaning/washing hands ?

Well this comes up every time I solder, cut, or file rail. When done I wash my hands good, but the odor of metal stays on them for a day or two. Just wondering if there is any "inside info" to get my hand clean.

Any suggestion?

Thanks
Chris

Have you tried using some sort of barrier cream on your hands before starting any work? I used to use it when I was in the mechanics trade and found it worked very well. Trust me, there's nothing like the look of greasy hands when you're out at a nice resteraunt, trying to impress a female.

I gave up, and use Nitril gloves, not latex. So Chris you think your hands smelling like metal is the "stinks" aye? You should of done a few tours in the Navy, after coming back from a pack, Yo whole body smell like steel, aluminum, maybe diesell fuel, when your at air ops, jet fuel (jp5) Wonderful stuff by the way, clears out all yo brains. I was happy I wasn't a torpedoes man, that Hydrogen Peroxide they use (might be using something else now) was pretty bad.

I get the same effect from handling pennies....

On the subject of cleaning hands, one tip I intend to include in our future videos is the importance of washing your hands well before building trackwork. The oils naturally present on your hands transfer easily onto the PC board ties and the rails and can make soldering difficult.

Over time, if left unpainted, fingerprints will start to show on the PC board ties. Another reason to throughly clean the finished trackwork.

If you want to clean the metallic odor off your hands get a Tablespoon of Baking
Soda (not Baking Powder) and a shot glass of clear white Vinegar.

Pore Half the vinegar in the cup of your hand and then dump the spoon full of Baking
Soda into the same hand and scrub your hands together then add the rest of the
vinegar and continue scrubbing your hands and rinse in warm water.

Next wash your hands with regular hand soap and water to remove the vinegar oder,
your hands will never be cleaner & the metallic order will be gone.
