Post subject:  Tie space question

With the HO scale jigs, it mentions a scale 20" tie spacing. Does that mean it's 20 scale inches from the start of one tie to the next, or does it mean that you have a tie, then a gap of 20 scale inches and then the next tie?

Thanks for clearing that up.

The tie spacing is listed as 20" for the HO #6 code 55 turnouts and 22" for the HOn30 #6 code 55 turnouts. To my calculations, that should work out to approximately 0.260" and 0.285" respectively. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm shortly going to be commisioning somebody to make dual gauge jigs and I want the tie spacings to be identical if possible.

Cheers.

With dual gauge typically the narrow gauge portion adopts some of the standard gauge standards. For the tie spacing we use 20" centers throughout the entire dual gauge turnout. The same with dual gauge track, but where the narrow gauge track diverges onto its own then the narrow gauge tie spacing would be used.

Thanks for that, I thought that would be the case. I am only planning on having dual gauge track for the turntable area and the transfer yard. But I still want to get it as close to prototype as possible.

The other important question is, what is the tie spacing on the assembly fixtures for HO and HOn30? As I said in my previous post, I assumed it would be somewhere around 0.260" and 0.285" respectively. I just want to get it correct before I get the lump of aluminium machined.

Thanks.
