 Post subject: curved frogs

Any suggestions from our host on how to bend frogs for curved turnouts??? I am at a quantry, have not tried it yet but open for suggestions.

Hi Rob,

What works well for me is to pre-bend a length of rail to the same radius as the grooves in the fixture. This can be easily done by pulling the rail through three fingers until you form a consistent curve in the rail. Cut about 2 inches off the ends of this rail, as it is very difficult to get a consistent bend near the ends, they have a tendency to remain straight. Use this curved section of rail to form the frog points as it will hold its curved shape at the point, which is very important for a curved turnout to function properly.

Hello Tim,

I followed your suggestion about prebending the rail and only using the center portion where the curve is consistent, worked out pretty well.
