Hi,

Brand new to Fast Track products - just got my first turnout kit with all the trimmings.

Question: The instructions mention filing a compound bevel on the wing rails. That's clear enough but other turnouts I've seen, instead of being filed, have a bend at the end that mirrors the bend in the guard rail.

Are these two different ways to achieve the same end?

Thanks in advance for any additional information that would help my understanding.

Same thing - achieves same purpose. Many guard rails also use only the compound filed end without a bend. You want a 'gather' that is less the 10 degrees of angle - otherwise you run the risk of a bumping and possible derailment rather than the function actually guiding the flanges in place.
