Post subject:  Painting PC board ties

Hi everyone!

I am new here and this is my first post. I am considering building some of my track for my new, under design, HO layout and I've got a question about ties.

How do you paint PC board ties? Which is the best technique to match color between wooden ties and PC board ones?

thanks a lot

Hello Kokomo,

If you look any of Tim's finished track you will see that he paints all of the track the same grimy black color which tends to blend the PC board and wood ties so that it's hard to tell them from one another. Tim prefers Floquil paint but other brands can be used also. He then uses a Floquil paint marker, usually Rust Brown, applied to the side of the rails and a bit to the top of the ties where tie plates would be located. He shows this technique in the video located on our homepage beginning around the 6 minute mark.

Thanks so much!

And which is Tim's thread about his painting techniques by the way?
