Hello,

Having seen the various instruction movies I noticed the way to make longer then raillength straight rail without using fishplates/joints. (Just soldering the two rail ends onto 1 tie)

This will work in hO-gauge but this is easier said then done in N-gauge. this due to the much smaller ties in N. Woul it be an option to add two slots for a tie next to the existing one in the middle of the jig. This would add some more strength to the joint. This could both apply to the straight and curved jigs.

I realise this would be extra expense, but you could possibly use an HOn30 fixture, as they have wider pockets. You could then use the wider tie, so you would (should) have plaenty of space to solder the two rails on the one tie. it would then be a matter of clever ballasting to disguise the extra wide tie. Otherwise, take your N guage fixtures to a mahine shop and see if they can widen one of the pockets to do the same job.

I have thought about a wider slot, but that would not do the job ( when laying the normal track).

An hO-gauge tie is wide enough for a but weld, with a N-gauge tie that is a bit different. Adding two slots for ties left and right from a tie-slot near the middle would not make the jig much more expensive.

There are some things which works fine in hO but need some alteration in N-gauge. A but joint on a tie is one of them
