I am wondering if soldering wicking would he helpful in removing excess solder
from track and ties.

Yes it does work. You run a slight risk of de-laminating the copper with application of repetitive heating. Use of the wick braid correctly will do a fine job - but learning not to overload the solder joint is still a better practice.

Thanks for the reply. I am just getting back into HO Model R/Ring. Have been retired 7 yrs. and we are moving to SC. ( a lot cheaper than N.Y.) Will be getting good sized space for my R/R and since its been15 yrs since I last indulged I am getting all my ducks in a row so that I can start as quickly as possible.
