The signals used around Sydney, NSW do not use "standard" CTC aspects, but a dual head (2 or 3 aspects over 3 aspects) system (plus plenty of other subsidiary options). As I wanted to have correctly signalled movements on my layout, I have to scratch build every signal (more than 20). 3mm LEDs provide the illumination, and I found some 2 and 3 aspect moulded heads on the internet, but I needed to be able to solder the LEDs so they fitted into the heads, and also provided a rigid support for multiple heads mounted on posts, or gantries. I had bought some Fast-Track ties a while ago, and these are the perfect width for fitting between the 2 wires of the LEDs, and also fit nicely into brass tube masts. The LEDs are all wired the same way round, and gaps are cut in the ties to keep them isolated. Wires from each LED will be wired to an Arduino for actual control (but that's a whole different story). Looks like you have lots of work to do but they look great. Enjoy the working signals. |
