I think it is a jig to make the gap cuts in a turnout so that the saw blade has something to support it around the cut point

I think it is a jig for cutting gaps in a turnout. Helps support the blade so not as many break.

It was very interesting to read everyone's take on what this thing really was, and amazing as to how incredibly close so many people came to figuring it out. In fact we had to study many of the answers very carefully to be sure we understood what the person meant, but when the right answer was posted by perra_e on June 23, there was no doubt he was the first to nail it.

A lot of people guessed it had something to do with switch machines. Perhaps a a remote mount for a Tortoise, or some sort of switch machine linkage, positioning device or mounting base. But what only three people actually figured out was that it is not an accessory for a switch machine, but rather the switch machine itself! Or more correctly, a manual turnout control. Or even more correctly, a very low cost manual turnout control.

Rio-Grande-Dan and gparoubek, also guessed correctly, however perra_e was the first to post the correct answer. Congratulations perra_e! We will be contacting you with details about your $100 gift certificate.

We are calling our new manual turnout control the BullFrog. There are two versions. An assemble it yourself version that is priced at $6.00 each, and a pre-assembled version for $9.00. It will take you about 15 minutes to assemble the un-assembled version (although the first one may take a bit longer.) Unlike other manual turnout controls, the BullFrog includes an integrated control rod mount, so there is no need to purchase the mount separately - making the BullFrog one of the lowest cost turnout control solutions available today!

Yes it is laser cut out of wood, but don't let that fool you. It is very robust and works very well. We are also releasing a complete line of accessories for mounting and using the new BullFrog. You will find all of the details on our website now here:

Thank you to everyone who participated. It was a lot of fun!
